NEW DELHI: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury‘s remarks against Mamata Banerjee‘s Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal has not gone down well with Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal(United).
“It is wrong for the Congress to demand President’s rule in West Bengal as it is like playing into the hands of the BJP,” senior JD(U) leader K C Tyagi said on Monday.
Chowdhury, who is the state Congress president, had said there is a complete lawless in Bengal after ED officers were attacked by the supporters of a Trinamool leader last week.
“Under the TMC rule, law and order ceased to exist in West Bengal. We demand President’s Rule should be immediately imposed,” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had said.
In another remark critical of the Trinamool Congress government, Chowdhury had said “The attacks on ED officials by TMC supporters is a blot on the image of West Bengal, where even personnel of investigating agencies are beaten up for probing alleged loot of public money by the ruling party.”
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been a bitter critic of Mamata Banerjee but the JD(U) feels his statements will help the BJP.
“We do not agree with the statement of Adhir Ranjan Choudhury. His statement will help the BJP,” Tyagi said.
The Trinamool Congress has also reacted strongly to Adhir’s attacks against its government and has called the state Congress president an agent of the BJP.
Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh said a section of Congress in West Bengal is working like an agent of the BJP. He wants the Congress national leadership to look into this.
“While the national leaders of the two parties are trying to work together, one section of the Congress in Bengal is working like an agent of the BJP. In 2021, While TMC was defeating the BJP, the Congress in Bengal allied with CPM for division of votes and to give oxygen to the BJP. But they got zero. Congress’s national leadership must look into this. Mamata Banerjee is helping you (Congress) to remove BJP in Delhi and your Bengal unit and their president are giving oxygen to the BJP,” the Trinamool leader said.
