Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th Brics Summit in Kazan, Russia, from October 22-23, 2024, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the ministry of external affairs announced on Friday.
The summit, themed ‘Strengthening multilateralism for just global development and security,’ will bring together leaders from the expanded Brics bloc, which now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates alongside the original members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
The summit aims to provide a crucial platform for discussions on global political and economic issues. Russian President Putin is looking to position Brics as a significant counterweight to Western influence in global affairs. Prime Minister Modi’s participation is expected to further strengthen India’s ties within the bloc and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
PM Modi is also expected to engage in bilateral talks with his Brics counterparts during the summit to address key regional and global concerns. The event will offer a chance to review ongoing Brics initiatives and explore future collaborative efforts among the member nations.
