The Kaikalur Town police, who recovered the body of a female baby in the toilet in Kaikalur Government Hospital, arrested two persons who allegedly raped a minor girl and impregnated her.
The hospital staff who found the body of the just born baby alerted the police on March 7. Following a complaint, the police registered a case and identified the mother, who was a minor.
The team led by Eluru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. Sravan Kumar and Kaikalur Town SI R. Srinu, traced the minor girl. Based on the statement of the victim, police arrested the accused — K. Ganesh of Kaikalur mandal and P. Vineeth of Pedavegi mandal — who had repeatedly sexually abused the girl and made her pregnant. The girl had come on her own to the hospital and had delivered the baby in the toilet. The hospital staff later found the body in the toilet, the DSP said on Tuesday (March 11).
The police said that there was negligence both on the sides of the hospital and the family members. It was surprising that the girl was nine months pregnant and the family members were not able to detect it.
The accused were booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and other charges of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Mr. Sravan Kumar said. The minor girl was admitted in Government Hospital for treatment.
