An inspector working with the Hyderabad City Police was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
The accused, identified as L. Balu Chowhan, was formerly the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahinayathgunj in Hyderabad. During his stint, he demanded a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh from the complainant in exchange for removing his name from a missing case registered at Shahinayathgunj police station, and to avoid further harassment, the ACB said. The amount was later reduced to ₹50,000 upon request by the complainant.
The accused was produced before the Special Court for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally. Further investigations are underway.
