BHOPAL: Former Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur shared her health struggles on social media after the NIA court issued a bailable warrant of Rs 10,000 against her. The court directed her to appear by November 13 in connection with the 2008 Malegaon blast case.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Thakur shared a picture of herself with a visibly swollen face. She wrote, “Congress torture has become the cause of lifelong, excruciating pain, not just in ATS custody, but throughout my entire life. I suffer from brain swelling, impaired vision, hearing loss, speech imbalance, and swelling all over my body due to steroids and neuro medications. I am currently undergoing treatment in a hospital. If I remain alive, I will certainly go to court.”
Thakur’s supporters said she is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Delhi for severe swelling on her face and difficulty seeing, which she attributes to the side effects of medication administered during her time in custody.
The NIA court issued the bailable warrant on November 6 after Thakur previously failed to attend court hearings due to her health issues. The court earlier allowed her to stay in Mumbai for medical treatment with the condition that she would appear in court when able. However, during a hearing on November 5, the court rejected her request for exemption, stating that her presence was mandatory, particularly as the case is now in its final stages.
Thakur is one of the seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, in which six people were killed and over 100 injured in a bomb attack on September 29, 2008, in Malegaon, Maharashtra. The accused include Thakur, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Prasad Purohit, Major (Retd.) Ramesh Upadhyay, and four others.
Earlier this year, in March, a similar bailable warrant of Rs 10,000 was issued against Thakur for failing to attend hearings. The new warrant, also set at Rs 10,000, mandates her appearance by November 13.
The case against the seven accused continues, and with the trial nearing its final stages, the NIA court is expected to deliver its verdict soon.
