Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarterfinal ensured England remained top of the UEFA coefficient standings and thereby confirmed the extra berth.

It means the Premier League could potentially have as many as seven clubs in next season’s UCL – the top five teams in the league, plus the Champions League winner and the Europa League winner if they finish outside the top five.

Italy sits second in the standings and is competing with Spain in third for the final extra UCL spot.

Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Fulham and Brighton are all in the race to qualify for the Champions League via their Premier League position.
