CHENNAI: Southern Railway has opened an airport-like premium lounge for passengers at MGR Chennai Central railway station.
It is located in the main concourse near platform 6. Passengers will have to pay Rs 200 for an hour. There will be free Wi-Fi and free tea/coffee.
The lounge, designed to accommodate nearly 180 passengers, has 112 single sofas, 10 recliners, 18 single sleeping pods and four double sleeping pods.
The dining area has 34 chairs and a beverage cum snack stall with a cyclic buffet of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
Rest rooms have space for showering and changing.
People have to pay approximately Rs 840 for three hours to use the sleeping pod that comes with a water bottle, a welcome drink, Wi-Fi, blanket, pillow and bed sheets. The charge varies according to the facilities or duration of stay.
The lounge will be operated by Ten 11 Hospitality for five years.
