The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) granted a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to Prithvi Shaw after he had mailed his request to represent a different State association earlier on Monday.
Confirming the development, MCA secretary Abhay Hadap said, “He is an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours…”
In a statement later in the day, the MCA acknowledged and appreciated Shaw’s contributions over the years and extended best wishes for his continued success.’
In his letter to the MCA, the 25-year-old said that he had been ‘presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association’ for the upcoming domestic season.
The former India Under-19 captain was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad last season, with the selection committee citing fitness concerns.
Shaw hasn’t played List A cricket in India since the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy — in his most recent outing for Mumbai two seasons ago, his last five scores were 32, 54, 39, 51, and 10.
Earlier this year, Yashavi Jaiswal had taken an NOC from the MCA and was set to play for Goa. But he made a U-turn later and stayed back in Mumbai.
