Producer Ratan Jain has confirmed that discussions with Shah Rukh Khan about a Baazigar sequel are ongoing. Although no concrete plans or script are in place, Jain expressed his intention to only proceed with the project if it involves Shah Rukh in the lead role.
He mentioned that while the idea is exciting, it would require a compelling script and fresh direction to ensure it meets the high standards of the original film, given its legacy and fan expectations. “We keep talking to Shah Rukh about Baazigar 2 but not much has Happened but it will definitely be made,” producer Ratan Jain told Etimes.
Baazigar, released in 1993 and directed by Abbas-Mustan, marked a significant point in Khan’s career, especially due to his portrayal of a darker, complex character. It was initially offered to Anil Kapoor, who declined due to a scheduling conflict with Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja.
After Kapoor, Salman Khan was approached, but Salim Khan, Salman’s father, reportedly disliked the script’s dark tones, leading to Shah Rukh’s eventual casting. Shah Rukh was eager to explore a thriller similar to Khiladi, which brought him to the project and helped Baazigar become a major success, paving the way for anti-hero roles in Bollywood.

Baazigar revolves around a young man, Vicky Malhotra (Shah Rukh Khan), who seeks vengeance for his father’s wrongful death by seducing and ultimately killing the daughters of the businessman who betrayed his family. This complex plot played with the themes of love, betrayal, and revenge, making it a standout in the genre.

The film went on to become a major box office success, earning critical and commercial praise. Kajol and Shilpa Shetty played significant roles in the film as well, with Kajol’s performance as Seema being remembered fondly for adding emotional depth to the thriller. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Anu Malik, included songs like Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein and Baazigar O Baazigar, which have since become classics.
