Rakesh Roshan recalled the shocking incident of being shot soon after the release of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, which left the family deeply shaken. In a recent conversation with Zoom, the veteran filmmaker shared that he immediately called Hrithik Roshan and warned him not to step out of the house.

Rakesh Roshan recalled the terrifying moment when he was shot, initially unaware of his injury. Speaking to Zoom, he said, “Until then, I didn’t even realise that I was shot. Then we headed to the police station because I suspected that the shooters might be nearby, and they might get caught.”
It was only later that he noticed his wet shirt and realized he has been shot and tried to stop the bleeding with a handkerchief. “Then I got to the police station, filed a complaint and the police took me to the hospital in their jeep,” he said.
Rakesh Roshan added, “I called Hrithik. He was at Yash Chopra’s house. I told him ‘Duggu, don’t leave the house. Your grandfather will call you, you come with him.’” Rakesh Roshan said he tried to maintain his calm for his family. He added, “Even after I got discharged, I used to get calls from there (the underworld). And I would speak to them. Sometimes I spoke to them in such a way that my friends, who were sitting with me, would ask ‘Aren’t you scared?’ I said no.”
In 2000, Rakesh Roshan was shot by assailants in broad daylight in Mumbai, just a week after Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai launched Hrithik Roshan into superstardom. The attack was believed to be linked to the underworld. The incident left the Roshan family in shock, as they faced both Hrithik’s meteoric rise and Rakesh’s near-fatal attack at the same time.
