Filmmaker Ranjith’s legal team has contested the harassment complaint filed by a young man from Kozhikode, alleging that the complaint lacks credibility due to a discrepancy involving the hotel mentioned in the report.

According to Mathrubhumi, the young man accused Ranjith of molestation at the Taj Hotel near Bangalore Airport in 2012. However, Ranjith’s lawyer argues that this claim is false, as the hotel was not opened until 2015.

The complaint, lodged at the Kozhikode Kasaba police station, claims that Ranjith sexually abused the youth after he approached the director during a film shoot in Kozhikode. The complainant alleged that Ranjith gave him a phone number written on a tissue paper and instructed him to meet at the Taj Hotel in Bengaluru two days later. Upon arriving at the hotel around 10 pm, the youth claims that Ranjith directed him to enter through a back entrance, forced him to consume alcohol, and then assaulted him.
In response to these allegations, Ranjith has sought anticipatory bail on the last day, which was granted by the District and Sessions Judge of Kozhikode. The bail, valid for 30 days, allows Ranjith protection from immediate arrest while the investigation continues.
The defense’s argument centers on the assertion that the hotel’s opening date undermines the complainant’s allegations, suggesting that the incident could not have occurred as described. The case remains under scrutiny as both parties await further legal proceedings.
