Union minister of social justice Ramdas Athawale described the demand for demolition of Aurangzeb’s tomb as “extreme” and urged the state govt to guard against a possible flare-up.
“History cannot be altered by demolishing a tomb. For so many years, Aurangzeb’s tomb has been there, and now suddenly there is an extreme stand. (State) govt should invite both sides and ensure there are no riots over this issue. Let us not bring the 1992-93 situation back,” Athawale said in Satara, alluding to riots in the aftermath of Babri mosque’s demolition in Ayodhya.
