Bollywood legend Rekha recently opened up about her experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan during an episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. Rekha appeared as a special guest and shared anecdotes that delighted fans, including a rare comment about her iconic collaboration with Amitabh Bachchan in the 1979 blockbuster Suhaag.

Rekha’s Dandiya Performance in Suhaag
During the show, a fan asked Rekha about the song ‘O Sheronwali from Suhaag’, where she performed dandiya in a temple sequence. The fan admired her authentic portrayal of a Gujarati dancer despite being South Indian. In response, Rekha humorously and gracefully credited Amitabh Bachchan’s magnetic presence.
She said, “Ye sochiye ke jinke saath main Dhandiya khel rahi thi, wo kya shaks hai. Acha nahi khelungi toh karungi? Dandiya aati ya na aati ho, saamna aise aadmi-shaqs aa jaata hai toh khud hi har angh angh theedakne lagta hai. (Think about this, the personality of the person I was performing dandiya with. I obviously had to do a good job. Even I didn’t know how to play dandiya, but when he stood in front of me, I would just start dancing.)”
For the unversed, Suhaag was released in 1979 and directed by Manmohan Desai. Apart from Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan, the film boasted a star-studded cast, including Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Amjad Khan, and Nirupa Roy. The iconic pairing of Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan contributed significantly to the film’s enduring legacy.
Rekha Steals the Show with Her Charm
The episode wasn’t just about revisiting old memories. Rekha’s delightful interaction with the cast of the show and her performances left the audience in awe. She sang for the audience and joined Krushna Abhishek, dressed as Amitabh Bachchan, for a lively dance. Krushna, Sunil Grover, and Kiku Sharda also entertained Rekha with their hilarious impersonations of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. The episode is currently streaming on Netflix.
