NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the alleged rape of an 11-year-old Dalit girl, claiming that such incidents keep happening due to the “party’s anti-Dalit and anti-women mindset.”
Sharing a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “The brutality and cruelty inflicted on an 11-year-old Dalit girl in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh is extremely shameful and shocking. Such crimes happening continuously in UP clearly prove that Dalits, and especially daughters, are completely unsafe under the BJP government.”
These remarks came after a deaf-and-mute girl went missing on Tuesday and was found the next morning in a field with injuries to her private parts and bite marks on her body. She is currently receiving medical treatment and remains in critical condition.
The leader of opposition in Lok Sabha declared that criminals disregard law and order due to “BJP’s anti-Dalit and anti-women mentality.”
“It is the result of the BJP’s anti-Dalit and anti-women mindset that criminals are fearless of law and order, and victims are helpless! Till when will the daughters of Uttar Pradesh continue to be victims of such brutality,” Gandhi wrote in Hindi.
“We have a simple demand from the administration – take strict action against the culprit and provide speedy justice to the victim and her family,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Daan Singh, within 24 hours of the incident. He was caught after a brief exchange of fire with police on Wednesday night, during which he sustained injuries, to officials.
