NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar took a U-turn on his “result of arrogance” remark in the backdrop of the BJP falling short of the majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Tweaking his previous statement that brought to the surface the reported fissures between the ruling BJP and its Hindutva ideologue RSS, Indresh Kumar said “those who resolved to revere Ram are in power and those who ‘opposed’ the Lord are out of power”.
“Desh ka vatavaran iss samay mein bahut spasht hai – jinhone Ram ka virodh kiya wo sab satta se baahar hain, jinhone Ram ki bhakti ka sankalp liya aaj wo satta mein hain aur teesri baar ki sarkar Narendra Modi ke netritva mein bann gayi hai. (The atmosphere of the country is absolutely certain…those who opposed Ram are out of power and those who resolved to revere Ram are in power under the leadership of Narendra Modi for the third time.),” Indresh Kumar told to news agency ANI.
“The country will make progress under his leadership – there is this trust among the people. We hope that this trust thrives,” he added.
In a veiled reference to the BJP, earlier Kumar had said, “The party which did the bhakti (of lord Ram) but became arrogant was stopped at 241 but it was made the biggest party. And those who had no faith in Ram, they together were stopped at 234,” he said, apparently referring to the opposition INDIA bloc.
“See the ‘Vidhan’ (rule) of Ram Rajya in democracy; those who did ‘Bhakti (worshipped) of Ram but gradually turned arrogant, that party emerged as the biggest party, but the vote and power that should have been given was stopped by God due to their arrogance,” the RSS leader had said.
Indresh Kumar’s statement after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat‘s Manipur message and RSS-linked magazine calling BJP workers “overconfident” has triggered a political firestorm, with the opposition accusing PM Modi of making the RSS “irrelevant”.
“Nobody is listening to them. Modi ji has made them irrelevant,” said Congress leader Pawan Khera.
RSS chief to meet UP CM Yogi Adityanath
Amid the reports of rift and blazing statements by the Sangh, Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to meet Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday.
The meeting could potentially attain much pertinence in the wake of recent Lok Sabha elections in which BJP suffered significant losses in UP.
While the RSS boss has been categorically maintaining that Sangh had nothing to do with the election results, sources said that the BJP brass sought to detail its ideological fountainhead about the possible causes that led to a perceptible slide in its tally in UP.
However, a senior BJP leader told TOI that the party giving RSS the feedback about the functioning of the organisation and the govt happened to be a “routine” affair which may or may not be looked at from the political lenses. Sources said that the BJP was already in the process of gross introspection amid allegations of “sabotage” levelled by some of the defeated MPs.
