The Tamil Nadu Rural Development Workers’ Union conducted an International Women’s Day seminar at Kallukuzhi, near Mannarpuram in Tiruchi, on Sunday. Minister for Human Resource Development Kayalvizhi Selvaraj delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment.
AITUC national secretary Vagitha Nijam gave the valedictory speech.
Union leaders and district representatives spoke about the demands of rural development workers. These included immediate disbursement of pending COVID-19 incentives, equal pay for equal work, ESI, PF benefits, and appointment of workers to vacant panchayat secretary posts.
Thousands of women workers, including sanitation staff, health motivators, and computer operators, participated in the seminar, urging the government to address their long-pending demands.
