‘Barbenheimer’ led the nominations for the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards, similar to the two blockbuster movies that ruled the box office last year. Both ‘Barbie‘ and ‘Oppenheimer‘ received four nominations each, including nods for their ensemble casts. These films will compete for the top prize alongside ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ ‘American Fiction,’ and ‘The Color Purple.’
The awards will honor performances in films and shows released during a tumultuous year in the union’s history.Members went on strike for 118 days after contract negotiations with the studios fell apart. A new agreement was reached in November, resulting in pay increases for the actors. The deal also improved the residuals actors receive when their work is featured on streaming services and included protections against the use of artificial intelligence.
