Samsung has launched Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 foldable phones, along with the latest iteration of its smartwatches – Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, France. On the occasion, Google has announced four updates that are coming to Samsung’s latest devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip6, Z Fold6 and the newest Galaxy Watches.
Suggestions from Gemini based on what’s on the screen
Earlier this year, Google launched the Gemini app on Android as a personal AI assistant for phones. The app allows users to take action across Gmail, Docs, Maps, Drive and more. With the new Galaxy Z series, Gemini will soon give relevant suggestions based on what’s on your phone’s screen.
Users can just swipe the corner of the screen or say “Hey Google” to bring up the Gemini sidebar. If, for example, a video is being played on the screen, Gemini chatbot will automatically provide the suggestion “Ask about this video”.
“The Galaxy Z Fold6’s large screen is particularly helpful for multitasking. Soon, when you watch a video, you’ll be able to bring up the Gemini overlay and move it for a split screen experience,” Google said. The Gemini app on Android is currently available in 29 languages in over 200 countries. These updates on the Galaxy series will be available in the coming months.
Circle to Search comes to Galaxy Z Series
Earlier this year, Google launched the Circle to Search AI-powered feature on Galaxy S24 series of smartphones. The feature has been rolled out to Google Pixel smartphones and is now coming to the Galaxy Z Series of smartphones.
“And starting later this month, Circle to Search will help you learn more complex topics like symbolic math and scan barcodes and QR codes on your screen,” the company said, adding that the feature will come to more Samsung devices later this year.
Samsung Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra first to run Wear OS 5
At I/O 2024, Google showcased the capabilities of Wear OS 5, bringing improved performance and battery life. The company has now announced that Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch lineup will be the first smartwatches powered by Wear OS 5.
“And they’re the perfect companion for when you’re on the go: These smartwatches offer advanced health monitoring capabilities, including heart rate tracking and sleep monitoring, and a personalised health experience, as well as access to a wide range of apps in Google Play,” it added.
Watch YouTube TV in multiview
Google has also announced that on the GalaxyZ Fold6, YouTube TV subscribers will be able to watch in multiview, enjoying up to four different streams at the same time. Users will have the ability to choose from pre-selected combinations of football, news, weather and simultaneous sporting events.
“We’re constantly working with Samsung to bring the latest Google updates to Galaxy products, from smartphones and wearables to even future technologies, like the upcoming XR platform,” the company added.
