PATNA: A special court in the Bihar capital served a summons on TN minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday, directing him to appear before it for a February 13 hearing in a case linked to his controversial remarks on Sanatan Dharma.
Special judge (MP/MLA cases) Sarika Wahaliya gave Udhayanidhi, son of chief minister M K Stalin, the option of having a lawyer represent him at the hearing to respond to charges levelled against him under various sections of IPC for his statements that stirred a hornet’s nest four months ago.
At a writers’ conference in Chennai in the first week of September last year, Udhayanidhi said, “Sanatan is like malaria and dengue, and so it must be eradicated and not simply opposed.” Kaushalendra Narayan, a Patna HC lawyer, filed a criminal case against Udhayanidhi at CJM’s court on September 4. The case was transferred to special judge Wahaliya on January 6.
