NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a bail petition filed by suspended Janta Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna in connection with a case involving allegations of rape and sexual assault.
A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma heard the case. During the hearing, senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Revanna, argued that though the allegations are serious, Section 376 of IPC (rape) was not mentioned in the complaint. Justice Trivedi responded by noting their are multiple other complaints.
Earlier, on October 21, the Karnataka high court had denied both regular bail and anticipatory bail applications submitted by Revanna.
On August 24 this year, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating four cases of sexual assault and harassment against Prajwal Revanna submitted a 2,144-page chargesheet, the first of four, to the special court which hear cases involving MPs and MLAs.
The SIT has charged Revanna with the rape of a woman who previously worked as domestic help for his family.
Prajwal is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and son of former minister H D Revanna.
