Sharmila Tagore has voiced her disappointment over the BCCI’s decision to discontinue the Pataudi Trophy, which honors her late husband, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. A key figure in Indian cricket during the 1960s and 1970s, Pataudi’s legacy was celebrated through the Test series, which began in 2007 to mark the first India-England Test in 1932.
Sharmila Tagore slams BCCI over decision to discontinue Pataudi Trophy
The decision is not yet final, but Sharmila Tagore has spoken out against it. “I haven’t heard from them, but the ECB has sent a letter to Saif (Ali Khan) that they are retiring the trophy. If the BCCI wants to or does not want to remember Tiger’s (Mansoor Ali Khan) legacy, it is for them to decide,” she told the Hindustan Times.
While the decision has faced criticism from fans and cricket experts who see it as the loss of a historic symbol, it also reflects a shift in cricketing traditions. Some believe this change could pave the way for new trophies or awards that better align with the evolving landscape of international cricket.
Many believe Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s legacy should continue to be honored through the trophy, considering it a significant part of cricketing history. However, with no official statement from the BCCI yet, the decision remains pending.
This development comes months after Saif Ali Khan was injured in an attempted robbery at his Bandra home while protecting his family. He sustained multiple stab wounds and underwent surgery.
