A sub-inspector of police died after being hit by a private bus while on duty near Pettavaithalai in Tiruchi on Friday.
M. Senthilkumar, 52, a resident of Anna Nagar in Thuvakudi, Tiruchi district, was a sub-inspector attached to the Pettavaithalai police station. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
On Friday night, the Pettavaithalai police station received information about a road accident near Thiruvalluvar Nagar on the Tiruchi-Karur highway where three people were injured.
Mr. Senthilkumar rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and arranged to send them to a hospital. He managed the traffic congestion on the highway. However, while attempting to cross the road, he was hit by a private bus going from Karur to Tiruchi. Senthilkumar was killed on the spot.
The Pettavaithalai police sent his body to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case was registered and the driver of the bus taken into custody for investigation.
