RANCHI: Sita Soren, who left JMM to join BJP and will fight from Dumka in the Lok Sabha election, said on Thursday that the death of her husband, Durga Soren, was suspicious and should be investigated.
As her statement comes 15 years after Durga’s death and just ahead of general elections, the JMM leadership said BJP was fixated on destroying the Soren family’s bond.”She was a bit late as Godda MP Nishikant Dubey had made the exact claim, hours after she joined BJP in New Delhi last week. BJP has inducted her into the party with the sole objective of destroying the bondings within the (Shibu Soren) family,” said JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya.
Interestingly, it is being widely speculated that Shibu Soren could further dent JMM’s prospects in Dumka by canvassing in favour of Sita, her elder daughter-in-law. When prodded about the possibility, Bhattacharya said: “Guruji (Shibu) is her father-in-law. This is their family matter and the party will not comment on it.”
Durga Soren, elder brother of former chief minister Hemant Soren, died at the age of 40 in sleep at his Bokaro house in May 2009. The family had then termed the cause of his death as brain haemorrhage.
Sita received a rousing welcome from BJP workers and leaders upon her arrival at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda airport in the afternoon. She joined BJP in New Delhi last week.
