The skeletal remains of a human were found inside a suitcase adjacent to the cemetery of the CSI Church near College Junction in Kollam, Kerala, around 9 am on Tuesday (March 11, 2025).

It was the church authorities who informed the police about the suitcase that was unearthed during yard work.

According to the police, the skeletal remains were in a decomposed state and not all bones were found. They said that it is likely that someone placed the remains in the suitcase and buried it at the site long back.

The suitcase was discovered while the church staff were inspecting a pipeline malfunction. While following the pipeline they found the suitcase in a weed-covered area near the church cemetery. Since the cemetery is located near a busy road, the police are investigating various possibilities, including whether someone threw it from the road.

Forensic examination

“The skeletal remains seem quite old and totally decomposed. The age can be estimated only after a detailed forensic examination and we have launched a detailed investigation,” said an official.
