MUMBAI: After complaints of unauthorised vendors entering long distance trains this summer to sell non consumable items such as soaps, pillows, first aid kits, stationery, toothpaste, accessories etc, the Central Railway has floated tender for licensed vendors so that unscrupulous people can be prohibited from entering Mail/Express trains.
An official said that this will ensure that vendors with badges, and who can be recognised by passengers, will be selling all goods inside compartments, and the e-bidding process is scheduled for June 21.
Sources said Mumbai division has a network of close to 60 long-distance trains and selected bidders can deploy up to 300 vendors on these trains, with potential for extension to 500 vendors.
