NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party leader Nawab Singh Yadav was arrested on Monday for allegedly attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl, the police said.
A distress call was received by Uttar Pradesh police on 112 helpline number at approximately 1.30 am.
“The call came from a young girl who reported that she had been stripped and an attempt had been made to assault her,” Amit Kumar Anand, the Superintendent of Police in Kannauj said.
Upon arrival, the authorities rescued the girl and arrested Nawab Singh Yadav, who was found in an “objectionable” condition, the police said.
During questioning, the girl revealed that she had accompanied her paternal aunt to Yadav’s residence, having been told she needed to be there for a job opportunity.
“A case was registered under sections of the BNS and POCSO Act. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway. The girl is a minor, around 15 years of age,” said SP Amit Kumar Anand. The authorities have initiated legal proceedings against Yadav, and the investigation is ongoing to gather further details and evidence related to the incident.
