NEW DELHI: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday shared the story behind his name on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.
Tharoor said he was named Shashi after Lord Shiva’s crescent as he was born on the day of Mahashivaratri.
Shashi refers to the Moon, which is an important element of Lord Shiva’s iconography holding the Moon on his head.
“I was born on Mahashivratri and named Shashi for the crescent moon on Lord Shiva’s forehead. In the Kerala calendar, my “nakshatram birthday” is today. It has always been a very special day for my family,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP wrote on X.
Though Tharoor’s post has nothing to do with politics, it might not be viable to write it off entirely given the mixed signals the Kerala’s leader has been sending to Congress’s high command in the backdrop of reports of his rift with top brass.
Amid speculations of unease between Tharoor and the Delhi high command, the ex-Union minister on Tuesday posted a selfie with Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal and the UK’s secretary of state for business and trade Jonathan Reynolds and welcomed the revival of long-stalled India-UK FTA negotiations.
A few days earlier, the Kerala MP also shared a cryptic post, saying: “Where ignorance is bliss, ‘Tis folly to be wise.” The post was a quote from famous English poet Thomas Gray.
Tharoor had earlier asked Rahul Gandhi to specify the role he is to play in the party. During their discussion in Delhi a couple of days ago, Tharoor expressed deep dissatisfaction over being sidelined within the party.
AICC was upset with Tharoor for deviating from the party’s stance on issues like the PM’s visit to the US and his meeting with US President Donald Trump. The recent article in which he praised the industrial growth under the Left government had created unrest within the party in Kerala.
Tharoor reportedly expressed his deep dissatisfaction over the way he was removed from the charges of the All India Professional Congress, which he had formed during his meeting with Rahul.
He also protested over the way he is being sidelined inside the Parliament during major debates as he is denied opportunities.
