MUMBAI: SpiceJet has daily special flights linking Prayagraj with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad specifically for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The service will operate from January 12 to February 28, 2025, providing travel access for pilgrims attending one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
“SpiceJet exclusively offers direct flights connecting Ahmedabad and Prayagraj, facilitating easy travel for Gujarat-based pilgrims,” the airline said in a press statement issued this week.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, occurring from January 13 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj, represents the world’s largest spiritual gathering, attracting ascetics, saints, sadhus, sadhvis, kalpvasis, and devotees. This sacred event occurs every 12 years.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said, “The Maha Kumbh Mela is not just a religious event but a celebration of faith, devotion, and unity. At SpiceJet, we are proud to facilitate this incredible journey by offering seamless connectivity and a comfortable travel experience. With our special daily flights to Prayagraj from four major cities, we aim to ensure that devotees from across India can participate in this sacred event without travel concerns.”
The flights are scheduled at convenient times to enhance pilgrim experience, the airline said, adding that reservations for these dedicated flights are available through www.spicejet.com, SpiceJet’s mobile application, online travel platforms and travel agents.
Last month, SpiceJet had announced plans to commence seaplane services in 2025, establishing connections to India’s remote and scenic locations. The announcement followed a demonstration flight from Prakasam Barrage to Srisailam Dam, attended by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu.
The airline said it has collaborated in seaplane trials across various locations, offering technical and logistical assistance to De Havilland. “SpiceJet holds operating rights for 20 seaplane routes, including Lakshadweep, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Shillong,” it said.
On the ocassion, Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet had said, “Seaplanes have the potential to transform India’s regional connectivity, opening up access to some of the most stunning, yet remote, parts of the country.” Avani Singh, CEO, Spice Shuttle said: “Seaplanes can be a true game-changer for a country like ours, where diverse geographies—coastlines, islands, and riverine regions—often present infrastructure challenges. With seaplanes, we can transcend these barriers and bring the joy and benefits of connectivity to coastal areas, islands, and remote inland destinations,” she added.
SpiceJet introduced India’s first scheduled seaplane service in October 2020 between Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront and Kevadia’s Statue of Unity. Low cost carrier Spice Jet operates a fleet of Boeing 737s, Q-400s and freighters. The airline, which was in dire financial straits till recently, has managed to work a number of successful resolutions with aircraft lessors, with the latest being a USD 16 million dispute resolution with Genesis. Under the settlement, SpiceJet will pay Genesis USD 6 million and in turn Genesis will acquire USD 4 million in SpiceJet equity at a price of Rs 100 per share. The other successful resolutions SpiceJet had included lessors and companies such as Horizon Aviation, Aircastle, Shannon Engine Support Ltd etc.
