The ongoing project to give a facelift to the Srirangam railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) has almost been completed.
Passenger amenities have been upgraded at the station under the scheme at Srirangam, which is one of the 15 stations covered under the ABSS in Tiruchi Railway Division. The modernisation work commenced in late 2023 following award of work.
The railway administration had sanctioned ₹5.14 crore for execution of a variety of work at Srirangam station that falls along the Villupuram-Tiruchi chord line section via Vriddhachalam and Ariyalur.
Improvement of parking and circulating area, improvement to station approach road, enhanced station building facade with porches for arrival and departure, new toilet block on Platform No. 1, renovation of concourse area, renovation of booking counter and waiting hall, air-conditioned waiting hall, improvement of platform flooring on Platform No. 1 with additional seating, installation of digital information boards, provision of ramp and signages for the benefit of persons with disabilities and landscape with selfie point were among the scope of work taken up for execution at the station.
The modernisation work at Srirangam station under ABSS have been completed. Finishing touches were given in certain spots at the station, said a divisional railway official. A separate project is to be executed for provision of passenger lifts at Srirangam station. Purchase order for provision of passenger lifts was being released, the official added.
