Union junior ports, shipping and waterways minister Shantanu Thakur‘s recent statement that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) would be implemented across the country within seven days evoked sharp reactions from DMK and AIADMK.
Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin asserted on Monday that the legislation, which he said was “anti-Muslim and anti-Lankan Tamils”, would not be implemented in Tamil Nadu.AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said his party would never allow minorities to be affected by the law. AIADMK had backed the bill when it was passed in 2019, when Palaniswami was CM.
