Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Stree 2‘ is set to release in cinemas today, on Independence Day. The film is clashing with two other big movies – ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and ‘Vedaa’ but right at the advance booking level, ‘Stree 2’ seems to have overtaken both the movies with a huge margin. If one remembers, last year as well, on Independence day, there was a huge clash between ‘Gadar 2‘ and ‘OMG 2’ and both the movies eventually ended up doing well in their respective spaces.However, the industry is overjoyed now, as it is expected that ‘Stree 2’ will break the record of the Sunny Deol starrer ‘Gadar 2’.
‘Stree 2’ is set to become the highest box office opener of the year. So far, it has already collected around Rs 20 crore in the advance booking, according to Sacnilk.com. Meanwhile, with the current bookings also going strong, along with a very strong buzz around the movie, it is expected to cross Rs 40 crore on day 1, which is Independence day. Of course, it will benefit from the big holiday. But the upcoming Raksha Bandhan weekend will also provide a good scope for the movie to further continue to do well. But it will also depend on the positive word of mouth.
The film had some paid previews on Wednesday and it collected Rs 7.50 crores already in that, thus, beating the record of ‘Chennai Express‘ which had made Rs 6.75 crore in its paid previews, but that was in 2013. This Rs 40 crore estimated opening is excluding of the paid previews.
Meanwhile, ‘Vedaa’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’ have much lesser advance booking numbers in the bracket of Rs 1 crore as the buzz is quite less. But once the film releases, these films can also pick up through positive word of mouth.
