RANCHI: “Yah ek veeram hai, jeevan mahasangram hai, har pal lada hu, har pal ladunga, par samjhaute ki bheekh main lunga nahi ….” (This is only a pause in the struggle called life, have fought each moment and will fight on. But will never ask for compromise in alms … I will not accept defeat. Jai Jharkhand!)
With these lines from a piece by Hindi poet Shiv Mangal Singh Suman, former chief minister Hemant Soren reiterated his commitment to keep fighting against the “oppression” meted out to him by the BJP govt at the Centre through central agencies.
Soren also released a video clip addressed to the masses late Wednesday night. The video was filmed minutes before he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Soren said the feudal powers, which are unable to tolerate a tribal chief minister, are working against him. “Under a conspiracy, the ED is going to arrest me. They spent the entire day in the name of questioning and accused me of owning a plot of land that cannot be sold or purchased as it is a ‘bhuinhari’ (plot owned by tribal priest family) plot and took me into custody when courts have closed for the day,” he alleged. Soren stressed that being the son of champion tribal activist Shibu Soren, struggle is in his blood and that he is not ready to compromise and he will take the fight head on. His determination to fight has been praised by many, particularly the tribal leaders. Former member of Tribal Advisory Council during the Raghubar Das govt, Ratan Tirkey, said Soren emerged as a matured politician during the current crisis. “He has shown that tribals are fighters and they cannot compromise their self esteem,” he said.
Expressing similar sentiments, filmmaker and activist Meghnath said Soren has effectively put brakes on fascism. “I am depressed over the prevailing political situation in the country but his conviction to fight the mighty gives me some hope,” he said. Soren also got a lot of support of Genext on social media platforms. A supporter wrote on X, “They could not tolerate a tribal CM as he thought of the local people. One should think neutrally, setting aside all political considerations, what is happening and what more will happen?”
