NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Monday permitted jailed Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari to attend ‘fatiha’ meet of his father Mukhtar Ansari who had died in prison on March 28 following a cardiac arrest.
A bench of Justice Surya Kant and K V Vishwanathan directed that Abbas, who is in jail, be taken to Ghazipur under police escort by 5pm Tuesday to participate in the rituals scheduled for Wednesday.
The court also allowed him to visit his family for another two days and directed that he be brought back to Kasganj jail on April 13. Ansari had moved SC court seeking permission to attend the last rites of his father but hearing on his plea got delayed and he then sought permission for rituals scheduled on April 10.
