The Tamil Nadu government will distribute transfer orders to more than 1,000 doctors on February 20, 2025, on the Directorate of Public Health and Directorate of Medical Services premises.
The announcement was made by Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma. Subramanian at an event organised by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), where he said the doctors had been assigned to their chosen locations and that transfer orders were ready for distribution.
According to Mr. Subramanian, as many as 1,021 doctors were appointed in 2024 on the condition that they served in 20 districts with high vacancies for one year without requesting transfers. They have now completed their tenure, and transfer counselling was conducted over the past three days, he stated.
During a press meet, he said the State would also issue appointment orders to 2,642 newly recruited doctors within the next 10 days. An examination was conducted on January 5, 2025, to fill 2,553 vacancies, and its results were announced. A total of 4,585 candidates were called for certificate verification.
An additional 89 posts were included, bringing the total vacancies to 2,642. Certificate verification took place from 12 to 15 January, 2025. Counselling will be conducted before the doctors are posted, a press release said.
The minister took part in the 55th Annual Day celebrations of a government girls’ school in Chennai. Chennai Corporation officials, local representatives, government officers, and students were present.
