Tamannaah Bhatia and John Abraham, who previously starred together in the action thriller Vedaa, are set to reunite for an upcoming biographical drama. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film is based on the life of Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. Tamannaah will portray Preeti Maria, his wife, in the movie. The film, inspired by true events, will focus on Maria’s rise through the ranks of the police force.
Tamannaah Bhatia reunites with John Abraham for Rohit Shetty’s biographical film on Rakesh Maria’s life
According to a report by Mid-Day, Tamannaah Bhatia’s role in the film will be described as “emotionally pivotal” to the storyline. The report highlights that Preeti Maria, John Abraham’s character’s wife, was a key support system for him during some of the most dangerous and challenging moments of his career. This makes her character essential to the emotional depth of the narrative, adding layers of personal connection and resilience to the story.
The upcoming film, with John Abraham in the titular role, is said to be based on Rakesh Maria’s autobiography Let Me Say It Now. The book chronicles his remarkable 36-year career with the Mumbai Police, where he played a crucial role in investigating high-profile and perilous cases, including the 1993 Mumbai blasts and the 26/11 terror attacks. The film will delve into the challenges and triumphs of his professional journey, offering a glimpse into the life of one of Mumbai’s most prominent police officers.
This film marks John Abraham and Tamannaah Bhatia’s second collaboration after the 2024 action thriller Vedaa and their first time working with director Rohit Shetty. However, an official announcement about the project is yet to come from the makers.
Reports indicate that filming has already begun in Mumbai, with the project set to shoot across 40 locations. The film is currently targeting an early 2026 theatrical release.
After the release of Singham Again in November last year, there were speculations that Rohit Shetty might next direct the highly anticipated Golmaal 5. However, recent reports suggest that the comedy franchise has been put on hold for now.
Rohit Shetty is widely recognized for creating and directing the Cop Universe, a shared cinematic universe centered around police officers and action-packed narratives. The franchise includes popular films like Singham, Singham Returns, Simmba, Sooryavanshi, and Singham Again, which have all contributed to his reputation as a master of high-octane action films.
John Abraham was last seen in the patriotic drama The Diplomat, which released in March this year. He is set to appear next in the action thrillers Tehran and Tariq, both of which are generating a lot of buzz.
On the other hand, Tamannaah Bhatia is currently starring in the Tamil-language film Odela 2. She also has Ranger, where she will share the screen with Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, among her upcoming projects.
