The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order reconstituting the State Bird Authority, which was formed last year to monitor and improve bird sanctuaries, nesting conditions for birds, and ecotourism facilities.
The government has decided to include the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Director, Advanced Institute for Wildlife Conservation (AIWC), and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Wetland Authority, as members of the State Bird Authority. Accordingly, an amendment to the government order dated June 21, 2023, has been issued.
The committee, chaired by Secretary, Environment, Climate Change and Forests, also comprises representatives from various departments such as Revenue and Disaster Management, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Public Works, and Tamil Nadu Tourism Department Corporation and Forests.
Earlier this year, an amendment was made to include Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) as a member in the State Bird Authority.
