The Tamil Nadu Budget 2025-26 presents a progressive and inclusive roadmap, balancing economic growth and social welfare, said Ramkumar Shankar, President of the Madras Chamber of Commerce. He highlighted key infrastructure initiatives, including the 2,000-acre Global City near Chennai, the ₹3,500-crore allocation for affordable housing, and the proposed airport in Ramanathapuram, as transformative projects that will attract investments and create employment.

The announcement of the ‘Tamil Nadu Maritime Transport Manufacturing Policy 2025’ will boost investment in shipbuilding and related sectors, leveraging the state’s strategic advantage of a long coastline, he added.

A Mohamed Ali, President, CREDAI Chennai, said that the proposed metro lines connecting key suburban areas such as Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam, Koyambedu to Pattabiram, and Poonamallee to Sriperumbudur will significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel time. These initiatives, coupled with enhanced infrastructure, reflect the government’s commitment to building a future-ready Chennai that thrives on growth, accessibility, and opportunity, he noted.

Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar, President of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce said that the budget will pave way for inclusive growth and urban and rural development. R. Nandini, Chairperson, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Southern Region & MD, Chandra Textiles said that social welfare initiatives such as the Rs 3,600 crore subsidy for the free bus ride scheme for women, the ‘Kalaignar’ scheme to build 1 lakh houses at Rs 3,500 crore, and the 1% reduction in stamp duty for properties registered in women’s names from April 1, 2025, is a commendable move toward inclusive development
