Telangana is on course to bag a mega investment in the renewable energy space with Ecoren Energy proposing projects with an investment of ₹27,000 crore in different locations across the State.

Another firm GPSR Arya, through its joint ventures with national oil companies Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, intends to set up 15 compressed biogas (CBG) projects in the State with an investment of ₹2,000 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s office in a note said Ecoren Energy has proposed a 3,279 MW wind-solar hybrid project at three locations in Sangareddy and Narayanpet districts; a 1,650 MWp floating solar project in seven locations in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district; and a 650 MWp ground mounted solar project in Jogulamba Gadwal district.

Stating that they are expected to deliver significant benefits to the State, the Deputy CM’s office said the project will attract a total investment of ₹27,000 crore (around $3 billion), generate about 16,200 direct local employment opportunities; contribute an estimated ₹1,600 crore in SGST revenue; and help reduce 400 million tonnes of carbon emissions over a 25-year period.

Expressing its intent to enter into MoUs with the government for the renewable energy projects, Ecoren Energy had sought preferential allocation of resources and connectivity support to ensure timely and effective project implementation. It has committed to commission the projects in line with the timelines outlined under the Telangana Clean & Green Energy Policy 2025, the office said.

GPSR Arya through its joint venture companies with IOC and BPCL has decided to set up 15 CBG projects of 15 tonnes per day output capacity each using agro waste and napier grass as feedstock under the Policy. The company has identified multiple potential sites for the CBG plants in Medak, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Siricilla, Jagtial, Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Yadadri, Wanaparthy, Mahabubnagar, Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts.

The CBG projects will entail an investment of ₹2,000 crore, generate about 3,000 direct local employment opportunities and annually utilise surplus 7,50,000 MT paddy straw. The annual mitigation of GHG emissions from the projects will be around 17.24 lakh MT. GPSR Arya has expressed interest in signing MoUs with the State government, and sought preferential allocation of resources and support to ensure timely and effective project implementation.
