HYDERABAD: A wedding function in Nizamabad has turned into a free-for-all, leaving at least 10 persons injured and cases filed against 17 persons.
But what led to relatives of the bride and bridegroom attacking one another with plates, glasses, chairs, vessels, sticks, stones and whatever they could lay their hands on was over this very reason: Guests treated to ‘insufficient’ mutton curry at the function.
At the wedding, which took place at a function hall in Navipet mandal, the bride’s family made arrangements for the wedding lunch. The groom belonged to Nandipet mandal. A group of guests from the groom’s side got into an altercation with those serving food, claiming they were not served enough mutton pieces in the curry.
The bride’s family and relatives intervened, but the situation was tense with relatives of both the bride and the groom resorting to physical attacks. They threw anything they could lay their hands on, including chairs, buckets and utensils.
The wedding venue turned into a battlefield as the guests either tried to evade and duck the ‘missiles’ which were being freely thrown or aimed the utensils at the other party.
A person outside the function hall who got to know about the incident dialled 100 and informed police. Cops arrived at the venue and brought the situation under control.
Those injured were shifted to the Nizamabad govt hospital. Cases were filed against people from both the bride’s and bridegroom’s side for causing nuisance. The complaint was lodged by a constable as neither of the parties came forward to file it.
