The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) has suspended a 31-year-old supervisor of the Arunachaleswara temple after a woman sanitation worker complained against him to the temple authorities, accusing him of verbally abusing her.
HR&CE officials said the suspended staff member, identified as K. Sathish, had been working in the temple for over a decade. He was responsible for allocating work to sanitation staff in the temple every day. and also to regular visitors in the temple premises
The suspension was based on an inquiry initiated by J. Bharanitharan, Joint Commissioner (JC), HR&CE. after the woman staff member complained about him to the temple authorities. on harassment of the supervisor.
Initial inquiry revealed that Satish regularly verbally abused the sanitation workers, including the complainant, without any valid reasons.
The workers were also asked to work beyond the mandatory shift timing of eight hours a day.
The inquiry team had also verified an audio clip — it had gone viral, resulting in a public outcry over the incident — in which Satish allegedly abused the complainant over the phone.
