NEW DELHI: In a recent development from Jammu and Kashmir, an incident of firing occurred late Friday evening in the Poonch district, leading to an immediate response from security forces. According to officials, terrorists fired at an army vehicle in J&K’s Poonch district, following which an operation was launched to ensure area security and track down the perpetrators.
A defence spokesperson has confirmed the incident, saying that details are currently being ascertained to get a clearer picture of what transpired.
“Soldiers in the vehicle returned the fire. There is no report of casualty. Further details are awaited,” a source said.
As per reports, the firing was aimed at a cavalcade of vehicles of the security forces, traveling through the Krishnagati sector. The attack, which took place near the Line of Control, occurred on the Poonch-Mendhar road, situated between the Lower Krishna Ghati and Jhallas areas.

As of now, there are no reports of any casualties or injuries resulting from this attack.
Following the attack, security forces were quick to act, initiating a search operation in the area to locate and apprehend the terrorists responsible. The official in charge of the operation also mentioned that the Poonch-Mendhar road was temporarily closed as the search progressed.
This incident marks a significant security concern in the region, and the authorities are taking all necessary steps to maintain peace and order. The situation is being closely monitored, and further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
Notably, on December 22, 2023, terrorists ambushed an army vehicle in Dera Ki Gali area of the same district, leaving four soldiers dead. Friday’s firing incident has taken place nearly 40 km away from Dera Ki Gali.
