Will Grier was signed to Dallas Cowboys‘ practice squad and were also having Cooper Rush and Trey Lance as third quarterback in a bid to manage their injury-prone quarterback Dak Prescott who needs season-ending surgery. Grier left the Cowboys last year through emotional circumstances in 2023 but won Dallas’ final preseason game against the Raiders, throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns.
It marks something of a homecoming for Grier, who left the organization in 2023 after trading for Trey Lance, and now Grier is back in the building with the Cowboys after bouncing around the league in stops with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and most recently the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Cowboys has signed quarterback Will Grier to the practice squad
Dallas Cowboys in another feather in the cap of the Dallas Cowboys, the team has signed quarterback Will Grier to the practice squad, bringing back a former close friend of the quarterback room. He was waived by Dallas in August 2023 after trading for Trey Lance.
Grier has played for Carolina, Dallas, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles since 2019. As a rookie, he started two games for the Panthers and completed 228 yards with no touchdowns, four interceptions in two losses. He hasn’t appeared in an NFL regular-season game since his debut.
Grier will be the Cowboys’ third-string quarterback, and Rush is expected to start Week 11’s game against the Houston Texans. Lance is the No. 2 option. Prescott will have season-ending surgery on a torn hamstring and has been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season.
