Archana Puran Singh has been an integral part of comedy shows like Comedy Circus, The Kapil Sharma Show amongst others over the years. Now, she is returning with Kapil and team with The Great Indian Kapil Show. Recently at a promotional event of the show, the seasoned actress shared that she considers her job the “best in the world” and enjoys “laughing her way to the bank” because of it.She also mentioned dealing with criticism in the past for her reactions to jokes on the show, which some viewed as “fake-laughing.”
Archana calls it the best job in the world
Speaking about judging these laughter shows, the actress says, “Laughter is universal and I think everyone’s laughter is the same. But I did not expect that one day I would be more famous for my laughter than my acting. As an actor I always expected that my performances would be known. But it is the destiny where it takes you and I can say that it is the best job in the world. I’m laughing all the way to the bank. I’m having the best time of my life. People crave to watch one episode of Kapil’s show live and here I’m there watching it like a guest every time. It’s a great opportunity.”
Archana on laughing even on bad jokes
Archana further opened up about being criticised for fake laughing, “The one thing that you mentioned that I used to even laugh on poor jokes. It doesn’t happen anymore Abhi aap dekhenge especially since the last year and now when we are on Netflix it doesn’t happen. I am talking about Comedy Circus when I was a judge people would comment that I would laugh on bad jokes also and I used to get upset at that time because jab jokes thoda kharab bhi hota tha punch ko Uthane ke liye they would put my laughter. They would say Archana ki hassi daal denge toh punch utha jaayega. Joke toh nahi Utha main baith gayi.”
On facing criticism
Fans would say ‘aree she is mad why is she laughing on such jokes’. The integrity of my laughter took a beating. I want to say that I genuinely laugh at a good joke.
Editing on such shows
Archana Puran Singh elaborated on her laughter on less funny jokes, mentioning that editing techniques sometimes placed her laughter throughout the show, making it appear as if she found everything hilarious. She highlighted how editing can manipulate perceptions in television. She said, “Someone even asked me how I’m laughing at it. But it was the edit… you guys are aware how one can do anything on edit. They were very creative, they would place my laughter everywhere.”
My laughter was added even where there was no punch
Archana Puran Singh explained that previously, editors would insert her laughter even for weak jokes, but this has changed. She said, “Anyway, now I am happy to say that now there are very few instances when the jokes don’t have the punch where I need to ‘false- laugh’, that’s number 1, number 2 is that Kapil now tells ‘you should have said that, this joke didn’t launch,’ he says it on stage itself and we even telecast it. So, we are the first to laugh at ourselves and that’s why the world laughs with us.”
