Literature festivals celebrate books and writing and, in essence, the ideas behind written and spoken words. They are spaces for the communion of ideas that emerge from books, spaces where vibrant interactions between readers and writers can happen, where enriching discussions and dialogue can promote better understanding between a diverse group of people with varied points of view. The Hindu’s Lit for Life is a festival that, while promoting a love for literature, can also light up one’s life by the ideas that one encounters, by provoking new pathways of thought, and by paving a way for greater clarity when dealing with the complex world around us. So, it is literature for life as well as being lit up for life.
For the last 13 years, we have consciously created a platform that is inclusive in nature and showcases a variety of expression in the arts, in literature and in culture. Diversity and the free expression of it is at the core of a democratic society and what better way is there to celebrate this than by facilitating and providing a forum that fosters it. In this endeavour, we have been greatly supported by the input and presence of wonderful writers, speakers, artists, and public intellectuals. We are privileged to continue year after year, putting together a festival that will always shine a light.
