“It is my good fortune that my biological family never interfered in any of my religious or political activities with any agenda. They don’t even come to me,” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told CNN-News18 in an exclusive interview, adding that all those coming to the Maha Kumbh 2025 “are like family to me”.
Speaking to Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi in Prayagraj, which is hosting Maha Kumbh — the largest spiritual gathering in the world till February 26 — Adityanath said he enjoyed serving the people of his state.

Asked about his siblings and his upbringing in a normal environment, Adityanath said his family had never approached him with any agenda or to gain favours. “None of them must have seen the Gorakhnath Math yet, I am sure. All those who are coming here [Maha Kumbh] are like family to me. I enjoy serving these people and I believe that whatever virtue they earn, all that merit will be received by them [biological family] as well,” he said.
The chief minister also gave an insight into his mission when asked what path he would have chosen if he wasn’t heading the populous state.
“I am doing my work as a Yogi and will continue to do so. My only mission is to strengthen Sanatan Dharma. Working for the strength of India, my whole life is at the feet of Mother India and dedicated to Sanatan Dharma. In this lies the welfare of the country and the society,” he said.
Adityanath also came down heavily on demands to divide the state into four, saying UP’s potential lay within its unity. “UP is UP in itself and this is its potential. I think UP should achieve its goals by staying united and I think that is its strength. That is its identity and its respect,” the chief minister said when asked about BSP chief Mayawati’s past statements that the state should be divided into four.
