The police on Monday (December 16, 2024) arrested three persons for allegedly running their car over a 24-year-old man during a gang war in Ranni on Sunday night.
The arrested suspects, identified as Aravind, Sreekuttan, and Ajo, all natives of Chethakkal, were apprehended from a hideout in Kochi. They would be brought to Ranni and produced before a magistrate after preliminary interrogation.
The incident occurred during a violent brawl when the trio allegedly ran their car over Ambadi Suresh, a native of Chethonkara. According to officials, Aravind was driving the vehicle that struck the victim. Though Ambadi was rushed to a hospital in Kozhencherry, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Initially, the police treated the incident as an accident. However, a detailed investigation revealed a conspiracy and confirmed it to be a case of murder. The car used in the crime, abandoned near Vechoochira, has been seized.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that the murder stemmed from an argument that broke out between two gangs near a liquor outlet in Ranni on Sunday afternoon, which later escalated into violence.
