Prayagraj: Three wagons of an empty goods train were derailed at Niranjan overbridge of the busy Delhi-Howrah train route of the Indian Railways at Sangam city, on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred at around 3:07 pm, blocked both the up and down lines of one of the busiest train routes of the country for around three hours.
Because of the derailment, train operations on the Delhi-Howrah came to a total halt and all the trains were stopped either midway or at the nearest railway station.
Train operations were restored on the down line (Delhi-Howrah) at around 6:00 pm as the first train to pass besides the accident site was Howrah bound Jodhpur-Howrah (12308) express. Soon, at 6:35pm, Chapra-Durg express (15159) was made to pass the incident site.
As soon as the news of the derailment reached the control, a team of engineers and supporting staff members arrived at the incident site and started their efforts to clear at least the down line. The engineers were trying to bring the wagons back on track till the reports were last filed.
According to railway sources, an empty goods train left Prayagraj Junction‘s platform number eight for Naini station at 03.05 pm, on Wednesday. The station master power cabin informed at 03.07 pm that three wagons of the goods train derailed near point number 282 and 283. This has disrupted the up and down lines. The derailed empty wagons were 17, 18 and 19.
