Asif Ali, who is one of Malayalam cinema‘s most promising actors, has often been praised for his choice of roles in films that address significant social issues.
From social issues such as acid attacks to marital rapes, he has frequently chosen films that discuss crucial topics.
Talking to Kochi Times earlier, Asif expressed that the discussions happening around him and in the society do influence his choice of films, even though it is not deliberate.Be it ‘Uyare’ which talks about acid attacks, or ‘Kakshi: Amminipillai’, which sheds light on divorces, or Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha, which revolves around marital rape, Ali has chosen narratives that bring positive change in the society. He earlier shared that when such issues that we all want to specifically call out are highlighted in the screenplays that he is offered, he automatically gets attracted to it. He also expressed that he gets excited by how such issues are presented through the screenplay.
Asif also pointed out the instance of ‘Kakshi: Amminipillai’, which was a theme that he could relate to a lot because he knows of the problems that crop up once the honeymoon period is over for a couple. He divulged that he had seen that it had happened to his cousins and friends, and so he wanted it to be discussed and fortunately the thought came as a script to him!

Meanwhile, Asif has been making headlines for his mature and kind response to an incident involving musician Ramesh Narayan, during the launch of the trailer of ‘Manorathangal’, an anthology.
