TRICHY: Trichy police have arrested two people for running a tattoo shop here without licence. Officials said the duo promoted tongue splitting operations by sharing videos on social media and had plans to launch more branches. The shop was locked and sealed by Trichy corporation on Sunday night.
Corporation officials, who conducted an inquiry, said the shop was active for more than a month and was open to provide services such as splitting tongue, tattooing the eyeball, and piercing body parts without a licence. During an inspection, the corporation’s health team found surgical items in the shop.
“Considering the operations of the tattoo outlet as endangering the public and creating nuisance, we issued a notice under the public health act and sealed the shop,” Dr M Vijay Chandran, city health officer said. The tattoo shop owner identified as S Hariharan, 24, a native of Chinthamani and his friend V Jayaraman, 24, a resident of Koothaippar.
Police said around seven months back, Hariharan went to Mumbai and spent Rs 2 lakh to get a tattoo in his eyeball. He returned to Trichy and had been tattooing on people without appropriate training, officials added.
The two were booked under the BNS Act, sections 118 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt), 125 (endangering the safety of others), 123 (administering drug to cause hurt), 212 (furnishing false information), and Section 223 (disobedience to order issued by public servant).
