According to sources, trouble broke out in the beach when the shack owner demanded extra charge for the food the tourists ordered after midnight. However, the tourists questioned the shack owner and the workers on why they should pay extra.

An argument ensued between the staff and the tourists. In the melee, one of the worker allegedly beat Ravi Teja with a stick on his head, while others beat him severely, killing him on the spot.

The accused were booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other charges.
